Removing Centre Console ?

I know this is most likely a very simple and easy thing to do, but i have no idea how to get this out, i want to install the light in the rear of the centre console, but for the life of me i cannot figure out how to get the thing off..

As well as that i want to get the footwell lights.. how to i get to the wires behind the radio/cigarette lighter to wire that up ?

Can someone please let me know, very new to modding cars, and i dont want to wreck anything

Any help would be great

Thanks

Being a regular on both sites (and I'm a big fan of both of them Grovel Grovel)

Go over to http://fordmods.totalweb.net.au/

You'll find a write up on how to install that light

Cheers

Yeah thats where i got the idea from, love that site, but from what my eyes can see is it doesnt tell me in very simple terms hehe how to take out teh centre console, has to be something i am missing and its frustrating me

I jsut spose i will need a workshp manual or something like that *shrug*... really annoying me..

It must be late at nite, cos i cant even figure out what to wire the cable to in my GLi .. it says to wire it in the centre console connector... but wouldnt i need to wire it to something like the cable that goes already to the interior light when the doors open ?

Please excuse my ignorance, i have never done this before, and have nfi about electric stuff .... so i would like to learn so i can actually feel confident to do things to my car.. i have so many plans for it now ...

Best way to learn about a car is to wreck a few of them....

Hehe, failing that but, get yourself a manual, I find the Gregory's manuals are pretty good for directions on removal of bits - not so good on technical stuff i.e. electronics but.

From memory, in the bottom of the centre console storage area, there are 2 screws to remove, then on the front lip of this area, another 2 screws will remove the front panel the house the power window switches and I think this will then reveal a bracket with more screws.
To remove it completely, you will have to remove the trans selector, if its manual the knob just unscrews, not sure about the auto.

The front part of the console sort of hooks under the dashboard bezel either side of the ashtray, I find it easier to remove the ashtray/stereo surround - open the ashtray and look for 2 screws either side and undo them, pull the ashtray away and it will unhook from the top. You will now have access to 2 more screws the hold the lower dashboard bezel in place, undo em and you should now be able to carefully pull the console away from the dash.

Shouldn't take more than 10 mins to get it out.
