Can some please explain to me, how it is even physically possible to remove the second bolt holding in the starter motor??? It is ridiculous! Aside from there being no room to get access to it, you can't even see the bloody thing (although I do know it's towards the top left). And yes, I am trying to get to it from under the car.
What gives? It should only be 15-30 minute job.
BTW: It looks like I have an AU starter...

I didnt find it that hard. You should be able to feel where the bolt is. It takes a while because you can only turn the bolts like 1/3 of a turn each time.
:s4 Well with lots of swearing I finally got the socket to sit on that damned bolt and I got it off. Doesn't take long to do everything, just persistence. I've replaced the starter (that was clean as a whistle) with one that is supposedly from an AU, but they share identical part numbers. Weird. I'm not sure if it's fixed the starting problem yet - as it was intermittent.
Now I've just got to sort out my "Brake Fail" starting problem - ECU/Handbrake??
Cheers.

Bit more detail on teh starter removal please? Did you do the "stuff a socket through the inside of the inlet manifold ribs and put a uni joint on the end" method or did you somehow manage to get a wrench in there?
ill be honest, when i replaced it i just got angry and ripped of the whole manifold. Im dying for some sort of trick way to make it easier since i gotta change it again soon.

Ripped off the manifold?! No way!! I just persisted and felt around with my fingers to locate the top bolt (from underneath the car of course). When I did, I managed to squeeze in a ratchet/socket (shorter the better) and undo it - wasn't very tight. Once you manage to get the socket on there, you can't get much leverage; but that doesn't matter. Once it is loose, you should be able to squeeze your hand in there and unbolt it with your fingers.

well at least you got it in the end, sounds like that was as hard to change as it was for me to change my coil, there is next to no room with that damn inlet manifold there!!!
