I have an ea 3.9 mpi. The car has allways had problems starting you have to wait 5-10 seconds after you turn the key for the engine to fire, then it idles rough for a few seconds spits a bit of black fuel smoke out of the exhaust and then the idle settles down to perfect.
The only time it dosent do this as much is when it is cold weather or the engine is warm and has been driven within the last 30 mins then it will start fine.
I though i had the problem fixed last year when i replaced the map, oxy sensors, plugs, oil cap,pcv valve it ran nowhere near as bad as it has in the last few days and i could easily live with it (i thought i probably just needed a new battery because there was minimal-no black smoke at start up
Last week my fuel pump died an i replaced it with a standard pressure vdo pump. since then the car has got really bad again to the point where i couldent start it yesterday, so i replaced the battery it started after about 20 secs of cranking. When it did fire we were ingulfed in black smoke and u could see and smell the fuel in the exhaust
Took the plugs out and they were ALL black and there about 6-9 months old
Question:
would the new fuel pump cause increased pressure(cos the old one was dodgey) in the fuel rail causing the injectiors to leak overnight when stationary. When its colder i assume the injectors havnt expanded as much allowing less fuel to leak past
If the injectors are leaking it would have to be all 6 of them correct? for all 6 plugs to be dirty
I was wondering why mine spits water when it starts up I still havent found out why. I think it might be moisture or something from keeping the car in the shed or something

Would people buy a commodore if it had a BTR-95le?
Would anyone be safe if the falcon had a THM700 E-Series Auto
My EA2 has starting problems when hot and most of the problem is because of a leaking valve stem seal. That allows oil to leak into the inlet manifold and make a rich mixture which fouls the plug. I have replaced the plugs with a hotter one - AGS42C - and they are better.
The other part of the problem seems to be a low hot idle speed. Most times it seems normal but if the car is pointing downhill the idle speed is so low the engine stops. I do not drive it enough to know all the symptoms. But why should the angle of the car affect the idle speed?
I know ther is oil in my inlet manifold and lots of it because when i park with the rear end up on ramps and take the inlet pipe off the throttle body, after a while oil will start dripping out of the plenum, im not sure if this is coming from the breather hose off the rear of the rocker cover or not. i think it destroyed my last map sensor which in turn destroyed the oxy sensor. The car dosent blow oily smoke though so i dont suppose it can be getting into the air mixture too much.
I would like it too be the pressure reg. because i find it to bee too much off a coinsidense that all 6 injectors decided to leak at 1nce, with all the same burn pattern on the spark plugs, i will book it into ford though just to make sure

this post dosent give me much hope luckily it might not be the same prob., it would be cheaper to sell the car or move somewhere cold
thanks anyway
