Rocker Gasket

Hey all replacing my the rubber gasket on my I6. Any silicon or anything required?

No don't use silicon or gasket maker with a rubber gasket. It causes it to slip out of place when you torque it up. Just clean the surfaces and put the gasket on.

how tight should a retorque the bolts? I dont have a torque wrench.

nah just do it up firmish - they dont have to be 'torqued" as such...

guess 15Nm...

Don't go nuts on it. I busted my rocker pedestals tightening mine up.

Yeah, if you do it too tight, you can also split the rocker cover straight down the centre (Pre EF)

nah i did them up firmish.

thanks for your advice guys.

when do i set the timing? Put the car in base mode. The rpm went upto 1000-1500 rpm dropped to idle speed, then 1-2 minutes later dropped down to almost stalling. I set the timing when the car almost stalled.

Is this the right time to do it? Or is it when the car drops to idle speed 15 seconds after the high rpm period?

You need to set the timing while its idling fast, pretty much within the 1st minute or so.
