Shes gonna blow

hi

has anyone got any ideas of what could have caused this in my top radiator hose, could it be a blocked radiator, i thought it might be the thermostat but in that case wouldent the excess pressure be held in the block

thanks

ash

ok so my pic dosent feel like posting, but the top radiator hose is balooned out huge between the rad and thermo housing (although it didnt burst it came very close to it)

Re: Shes gonna blow

If the car's not overheating I would put it down to age, personally, and buy a new hose.
You could try getting it pressure tested...

Re: Shes gonna blow

The car is an EL fairmont (xr6 motor) it has done 86 000km with the head gasket replaced at 81 000 kms.

I noticed coolant dissapearing but couldent trace it until i heard the o/flow bottle hissing away and coolant coming from the exoansion tank

i topped it up and replaced the cap with the 1 off my brothers car to test it. i thought i had fixed the problem unti i went up a long gradiant (freeway) the temp gauge was sitting between the O- R on the normal scale. When i got home i lifted the bonnet to see a huge bulge coming from the top pipe. we releived the pressure so it didnt blow

The car is under a warranty hopefully, but i want to know whats wrong before i go back

i only had the car a few days and sold my ea to solve these problems - well maybe not

Re: Shes gonna blow

if it was just the hoses i wouldent be worried but that wouldent be causing it to run hot would it? what is the usual movement of the temp gauge any one know (dont say "the part that says normal")

A knackered thermostat can cause problems like that. I have had a hose 'hot dog' like that before, but it exploded! We saw it happening and shut the engine down, but the heat in the block continued to heat the water, so we ran. They go off with one hell of a bang too! Somehow the engine survived unharmed.

Why did you have to have the head gasket done at such low kays?

Re: Shes gonna blow

Meh...I wouldn't have thought between O and R was all that hot.
