i seem to have really slow take off but after 40km my car seems to boot. i have a 3 speed auto Ea. has any one have/had the same problem?

It's a standard factory extra. Ford used a combination of low differential and transmission gears as an early form of traction control

Ok, there are a few things you can do.

Firstly, you can change your diff gears to higher ones. XR6 used 3.23 or 3.45. This however will make the car rev higher on the freeway.

Secondy, you can do some engine mods which involve performance cam shafts etc. Check out www.crowcams.com.au.

Finally, if you want some real GO out of your EA off the line, put a 5 speed in the thing. IT's the best mod I have ever done, and I guarentee everyone else who has done it would agree.

how much did ur conversion cost? and did u do it ur self.
how much would it be for a mechanic to do?

ahahahah, traction control thats good, was that like the package that came with the uncontrollable ass end in the wet, and the stock body roll. popular option :)

Yer, and the 3 speed that was 'A Huge Advance' in technology for it's time.

The conversion to a 5 speed should cost around $1100-$1500 installed.

Dont mean to boast(yeah rite) but mi 89 EA S2 GL 4SP has not 1 oil leak , and yes it is full of MOBIL 1.

I'm sure yous will all be interested to know that VL's were the only cars that came out with a factory canary. HEHE
