When was Smartshield introduced on the Falcon?

My bro's 98AU has the same style key as my ED (Smartlock), but my 99AU has a larger plastic part of the key that I've seen on AU2's. Does this mean that my AU has Smartshield?

BTW I don't have an owners for my AU. I think my AU was made 6/99.

I dont know a whole lot about the Smartsheild system, but I think they came out on the AUII Models, although it is possible that there was a carryover period.

Umm, the only other way that I can tell that you have smartsheild is from the Keypad, (It has a Panic Feature).

Also Smartsheild has the Dual Stage Unlocking, (I.E. Pressing Unlock, and the Drivers Door Only will unlock, pressing it again will unlock all the doors.)

Also, I think the Instrument Cluster Warning Jewel actually says Smart Sheild, not Smartlock.

Mind you I havent been inside an AU for well over a Year, so I am probably very wrong about all this

Smartshield is the immobilisation in the car, not the tint SUNDEEP and yes all falcons have it since the EB / EB2 not sure. As for the key size, the bigger key was introduced in the update AU1 version. That upgrade had a change in the colours, when Congo green was introduced and was when the took the clear side indicators off the Fairmont, Fairmont Ghia and Fairlane rage

Actually sorry, Smartshield has only been on the AU models, but was on AU1. Smart lock was on everything earlier then AU1

Hmmmmm, looks like a good idea to set up some trademarks, using the word SmartXXXXX.

I.E. SmartStart, SmartBrakes, SmartCooling, SmartThingie.

can i ask what happened to that AU and what you use it for now? I wouldnt mind picking up one from the Auctions and using it to run around the farm!

Hmmm, 2 things come to mind here:

1. V8RUMBLE tried to do a Fast & Furious under a semi trailer and found out the fun way that it's not as easy as it looks.
