Started about 12 today.... didnt get much done... just got the manual gearbox out of the spare eb today.... and most of the pedal box... what troubles me is what computer do I have to change the one thats near the pedalbox or the one in the passenger seat.... I am happy with what I have found so far.... Computer and pedalbox look near brand new ... just hope its actually a eb2 box.... was a barstard to move the manual gearbox back... shitting myself thinking I am going to drop it on myself and then find out it only weighs 40kilo's..didnt help having on of the bellhousing bolts still connected.. dont know how I am gonna go getting the auto out of my car tomorrow :S.... we are working on dirt with the cars on jacks
yeah its got me clueless as to which one needs to be changed because I thought it only had the one computer.... but then this guy at the wreckers said most people who do the conversion dont notice that their is 2 computers.... how you could miss the one near the peddle box is beyond me.... I am also using mongrelEB's guide..Its awesome they would make a fortune if they decided to make a book hehe.. I dont think me and my mates would attempt the conversion without it.... I like it how he says "you've be warned" about the bellhousing bolts... that sure saved a couple of swear words knowing others have suffered the same pain.... we arnt really doing the same thing though because we are putting the auto into the car that has the manual so we have to swap radiators and wiring and shit :S..... as for the computers I think I will just swap both.... we are going to work on it all tomorrow.... hopefully come close to having the manual in at least...
I did the conversion during last week the only thing i can suggest is make sure you have a trolley jack to support the weight of the auto box and a prybar or big screwdriver to leaver out the auto box.(thats what i had to do as i had no help)
gotta give ya credit if ya did it all yourself.... thats what I am not looking forward to getting the auto out.... our trolley jack is pretty old and small so we cant seem to get things stable on it, also dirt doesnt really help cause it dont roll.... but we will be sure to use a screwdriver to get it off.... we did the same thing with the manual.... didnt like the noises we heard when it came out
yeh i know what you mean about the noises.
Just make sure when you get the auto seperated by about 1inch that you have a container to catch all the tranny fluid that will come out of the converter.
i forgot it and had a pool of oil to play/lay in while i was putting the manual in.
1 thing i know is this...you cant beat a manual falcon
You'll definitely want a trolley jack for the auto, it weighs roughly 20 kg more than the manual in my estimation!
As to the computer - what car's the auto going into? That's what you need to worry about. The manual will run on either computer, it just idles a bit high sometimes with one of the auto computers.
But it's likely that the manual donor car has no wiring for the auto setup. This means you'll probably need to swap the looms as well. Have a look at your EBII, does it have a computer by the pedalbox? If so, you will probably need to change the engine bay looms. If not, then the box wiring must go into the engine computer, and you'll only have to change the computer loom.
Which reminds me, Smartlock may be an issue depending on the donor car, so you might have to swap the dash as well :s
hehe no worries... its a good guide especially for non-mechanics like me.... well we didnt get far today.. just got the auto out because we forgot to get a thrust bearing before everything closed... didnt read your messsage till today nudge so I sorta stuffed that bit up :S... the auto fell on my mates arm and leaked everywhere... should have done what that guide says and drained it hehe.... its one oversized, heavy barstard of a thing, we had enough trouble getting it out from under the car had to take one of the tires off and slide it out, on the dirt.... both the cars had computers attached to the peddle box one was red and the other was yellow... hopefully we can just do a swap from one car to the other for the wires..... fingers crossed...
real shitty job but it gives us something to do.....will pay off when we get it finished ....
well my mates have got the pedal box in without me even knowing  But we are not sure about the oil that we have been given by this ex mechanic guy.... First we went to the shop and hes wife gave us green diff oil :smokin2: Then hes given us the red 95le oil fluid... its got nothing about manual trans on the box, just says that its suited to 85 and 95le auto's.... is this the oil I should be using... something tells me it will do the job soon as its the same color and thickness we pulled out of both transmissions.... still I want to be sure... last thing I want is to have to replace it with another T5....
Yeah. Both the auto and manual use Dexron II or III. The manual also should have an additive which I can't remember the name of, is not immediately essential. But you should probably source some eventually
the computers on the pedle box are smartlock ecu,s do not change or you will have to relearn key pads ingn signil the converter can be left in box if u push it back once unbolted from drive plate through inspection hole in drive plate (1" round hole by bolts in drive plate)

We did exactly that ...
we just about finished the conversion we have everything in ..... only we got the computers confused and it wont start..... It was about 6 when we tryed to start the car so it was to dark to fix the problem.... It comes up with brake fail and the smart lock starts blinking like a rocket.... we are gonna swap the pedal box computers back and grab the ones out of the passenger kick panel and fiddle with some wiring tomorrow..... hopefully get it started within 30 mins I recon
Swapped the computers and it started straight away ....... So much better with the manual..... was driving it around afterwards like I stole it and its just so much better.... spins both 215 wheels going around a corner, booting it in second... my mates in a car behind me where real impressed :notwthy: ... leaves nice big black marks but is blacker when only 1 wheel spins,.... recommend this conversion to whoever doesnt want a slug :hehe:
Congrats on finishing the conversion.
Its lots of fun in a manual falcon. I spent half of today doing some nice circle work in one of the paddocks on the property i live on.
Lots of fun.
Yesterday, we got the pedal box in, and the auto out. gettting the auto out was piss easy!!! we didnt drain the tranny, and of the little things that we undid, we only got a couple of hundred mils of fluid out, the rest is still in the box.
when undoing the torque convertor from the flex plate, one of the 4 bolts was less than finger tight... :AAHHH:
we got the flywheel on, and thats where we left it for last night. we need to buy some high tensile bolts for the clutch, and wack that in, and we are goin the home stretch for finishing the conversion...
oed: good to hear that things are progressing along quite nicely ....
i am not really looking forward to putting my tremtec into my car next week .. especiall both manual and auto gearboxes in AUs are bigger and of course heavier. at least i have the comfort of a "real" mechanical workshop ...
we finished OED666s car today, no probs at any stage in the conversion :s6: was sooo easy! (not as easy as just buying a factory manual though heheh)
one thing though - in your instructions you say that you have to remove a relay and cut and earth some wires and stuff? i assume thats for the park neutral inhibitor override?
i just lined up the pins in the plug for the reverse lights/neutral switch and speedo, and the car wouldnt crank yet (it needed the park/neutral signal) and then stripped a small section of the orange/black wire (the one thats at the top right of the plug if you hold the 'clip' of the connector upwards) and the black earth wire up near the plug, and soldered the sections togather, she runs like a dream, much easier than finding relays and stuff...
P.S. with me at the wheel the OED666 can smoke through first gear, spin into second and chirp third now!!!! it bloody HAMMERS! (does have my 3.9LSD in it though, and i want it BACK DAMMIT!)
Good idea Rollin. I just did it that way cos it took less words to explain to people who haven't seen it before
The 3.9 would be making a fair difference for some reason mine will still get a little chirp if you change into second hard, and will spin well into second during burnouts, so when you take the diff back the car won't slow down too much (though it'll feel like it lol)
Enjoy OED, until it wears off and the power beast bites again :s5
we finanly finished the conversion i suppose hes been out burning tyres and hasnt let you all know the thing runs much better and we also had a little swap of the front suspension to
EFJase - 3.9's are awesome. I am not looking forward to wet whether.
I smashed an AU tonite, he had a slow rolling start, and i am pretty shit with my manual control. so i just dumped the clutch, and on with the juice pedal!!!
That run was on street tyres.
I know cause i was there when he did it.
And MANUALS RULE
