XR6 VCT UTE

On a hot day intermitently ill attemp to start my xr 6 and you hold the key in the start postion and nothing happens for 10- 30secs
then it wont do it for a month,
Even nrma had no idea and suggested the car was getting to old

Is their anything off the top of any ones head that would know what this could be with out me taking it to an auto electrician or even worse a FORD DEALER

Ive checked smart lock for codes,and the inhibitor switch

but to no avail

She never lets me down other than this

Had the same problem with my ED Fairmont and fixed it just yesterday in about an hour. The problem was in the smartlock module where the relays attatch to the circuit board. All the soldered joint were cracked but easily fixed by reflowing the solder with a small iron making sure not to apply too much heat. You can tell if this is the problem with your car by giving the area directly above the hand brake a tap with your hand as you hold the key on when you find that the car wont start.

Where is the module postioned in the car ?(probably above the hand brake right)

what am I looking for?

And how the **** did you work that out ?

I checked all the earths i could find and was about to replace the

start relay,ignition switch,ihibitor switch .

O.K. here's what you have to do,assuming you have the same problem that I did. Remove smartlock module (It's mounted directly above the hand brake. Probably red in color) Remove black plastic cover from the end of it (carefully) Slide out circuit board Examine all solder pads for cracking. Use a magnifying glass under a good bright desk lamp. If you don't have any experience in soldering electronic components find someone who has to reflow any cracked soldered joints. Good luck.

I pulled the module out ,give it a clean and could nt see any cracks so i wasnt convinced it was the problem,but then it wouldnt start again the other day ,gave it a tap above the hand brake and she went so I will buy a new one I think.
And keep this one as a spare
