hey all

Ive got some weird problems in my car(EBll spack) sometimes it won't start it's like it's in drive or reverse but it's not.There's nothing when you turn the key.ive had the NRMA out twice to get it started the first guy said it was my starter motor the second one said it could be my inhabitor switch.So i drove it home the first time and i was just gonna get the nrma out to get it started so i could drive it to the auto elec but it started.My car has been up there for 2 days and they can't find any thing wrong with it any suggestions guys???

my aunties eb 4 speed wagon done this, ended up being a safety sensor in or on the trany that prevents the car from starting if in gear. the sensor was replaced and while it was at the shop the trany was rebuilt for piece of mind.

I think the inhibitor switch may be failing. I had the same problem, and conviced myself it was something else ( it used to start when I wiggled a certain wire) later found out that this wire has nothing to do with the starter circuit. Just pure coincidence.

Inhibitor switches are around $90, but give it a good look over before replacing parts. Could be your engine/chassis earths making an intermittent connection.

Not sure if they are the same or upgraded now, but my EL does it from time to time, and found out the smartlock plays up now and again. Took mine to the dealer with the same thought about the inhibitor switch and they ran their computer over it and showed a couple of "unauthorised attempts" at starting. Apparrently it has a faults memory facility in the body computer.
Thats what the dealer tells me anyway!

If you don't want to buy a new inhibitor switch, just take it out and wire it up so u can start in any gear. Saves u money, but is a bit dodgy if u aren't careful what gear its in b4 starting. Did this to my old XE and never had a drama. Not ideal, but if moneys a problem it would work for a while
