Steering Column Spline

Had this one in the interiors forum, but no bites, so I'll try my luck here! :-)

Can anyone out there tell me if Ford changed the spline on the top of the steering column between the XW-XY and later models? I'm looking at getting a second-hand after-market twirler and boss but I'm told the boss may be off an XD.

cheers

Rob

I'm pretty sure the splines are all the same from XW up to XF and maybe even newer. The only prob i can see is the XD boss might not have the rings on the back of the boss for the horn to work..

from memory i think there may have been a change after xd. the reason this may be so is my xe had a spring behind the boss which helped release it from the spline where as my old xt and xd didn't. a bit sketchy, but i hope this helps. i had a saas boss that fitted my xd but still had the horn button in the middle.
try going to auto barn or something and have a look in a saas catalogue to see if they have the same number for all the boss's.

Thanks for the replies - I like the idea of checking the boss numbers from a catalogue - reckon I'll give that a go!

As for the horn rings - that may be a major stumbling block. May see how hard it is to adapt the existing ones from a crappy old wheel I have into the newer boss. Or just buy a proper boss! :-)

Cheers (lots of) and Happy New Year!
