Steering Rack replacement - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Howdy All

Now please don't flame me here as the cars I normally work on are Fords, but I was helping out my wifes friend by replacing the steering rack in her Cressida. Got it all done, but the steering just bounces back and forth when you try to turn it. I thought the lines were right, but what do you reckon. Is it air in the system, would it matter if the rack wasn't lined up perfectly straight (ie are there valves in there or something that not lined up), did we screw the lines around.....

had that style of problem once ages ago in a Ford. Turned out I was given the wrong Power steering pump.

I'm worried that you are fitting/have fitted a fairly major safety item and you don't know what you are doing!

That said - take it to a mechanic. They are experts and will sort it out for you, while keeping the rest of us safe! I don't mind doing a bit of backyard mechanical work, but any safety stuff is definitely left to the experts.
