Steering wheel not locking

I have a 2000 Excursion 4wd V-10. I have to turn the steering wheel 180* for it to lock. I guess something broke. What?

Re: Steering wheel not locking

Not sure if it's necessarily broke, but you can't tell without at least partially dismantling the steering column. Since it does lock at some point, the locking plate is somewhat intact, and the locking pin still exists, but it should be locking sooner. Does this happen in both directions?

Re: Steering wheel not locking

Thanks for the reply. Yes...it's the same whether I turn the wheel to the left or the right.

Re: Steering wheel not locking

I think you need to get into the locking plate. Not sure if it's a safety hazard unless you can see what the plate is doing.
