test drove an au3 xr6 and have got an au2 rental at the moment and both of them make a strange noise at higher speeds. the xr had the noise at 160 or so (so i am told ) and the forte at 100 to 110. but not always in the forte...only occasionally.
it is a very difficult noise to describe, but it is somewhere between a speed alert, a mechanical whine and wind noise. it is also very difficult to locate where it is coming from, but it is frontwards of the driver.
now...i have just signed up for the xr, but would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and what it is. your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you with the noise, but where did you see the AU3??? What's the definition of an au3? I know I'll be pissed off when the AV XR comes out, but I haven't heard anything about this one.

Saw one at the dealers this morning (a 220Kw T3 V8 - I assume that's what everyone's referring to?). Nice looking beast. Not sure if I like the 'grill' on the rear bumper though.

I have an AU2 Fairmont and a AU2 XR8 and both of them had this winning noise in the front, its caused by the rubber that goes around the windscreen. Ford are currently replacing all of these if you have the problem.
