Hi all, Today I bought and fitted a T series duct/snorkel/ whatever on my AU forte.
Just a question about the factory duct, when i removed it i noticed it had a hole of diameter 6 or so cm facing back from the air box. There were little threads of plastic still attatched to the edges of the hole. Just wondering who would have put the hole there and why? the LPG installers? I don't see why anyone would put a hole engine side in though.

Anyone able to shed some light in this?

By the way the larger air intake duct is good and tonight on the way home i filled up with petrol, went premium for a change, Mobil Synergy 8000 and the car was amazing.

T Series Air Intake Duct part no. TAUTVE 9A624A, $27 from your local ford dealer.

Also re the hole, ford say they know nothing and maybe the fleet guy modded it for some reason (this comes from the dealer that serviced it until 42000 when i bought it)

Cars that are on gas have to run at higher temperature for some reason. They must have put a hole in the cold air intake to draw warmer air from the engine bay.

The reason why an engine running on gas needs to run hotter than a petrol engine is unknown to me, someone else may be able to help.

Hmmm when I asked knox ford I mentioned the LPG and they didnt say they knew anything about it, will ask the dealer that installed the LPG, I am running the duct with no hole, will also check if my old man's AU2 dedicated LPG has a hole.

LPG does burn at a higher temperature that petrol though, but if this hole needs to be there then damn i need to find out. But then whoever put the hole there didn't do a perfect job of it, i would think a dealer would polish off the edges

Rang the dealer who fitted the LPG today, apparently they put the hole there when they install LPG systems but there is meant to be a t-peice, valve and duct attatched there. I told hime there was none of this and he said just to run with the T series with no hole. no probs. I will be asking about this further at my next service, pity that's 8500km away
