well guys the uni joint is fixed, no more clunking, but i still have that terrible tapping/knocking noise on hard takeoff and when idling cold, even when idling hot it has a slight tap here and there.....almost sounds like a stone or powerball lotto draw is happening in my exhaust, but i cant SEE it tapping anything, and i tried securing it and it didnt stop.
its not coming from my engine i dont think im pretty sure its coming from under the car. side engine mounts are new.
Just a few things that may make noise. The cat converter, sometime makes a rattling noise when gone, uni's, security of extension housing on box can knock the cabin floor, give all components of the exhaust a good knock with ya fist to determine it's condition. Otherwise could be tappets.
depnds on how many you got making a noise plus they can mushroom worst case then its no longer a top end job you need to take the head off to get them out i think every member of this forum has or had noisy lifters i personaly would have to get it done so if your lucky guessing around 400 bucks
yeah i would assume exhaust components because ive been told by Ian Diffen that the exhaust is ****ed and i need a new one.
however, when i take off hard, or go up a hill towing something or take off with my foot on the brake (not that i ever do this.....just for test purposes) it makes a terrible loud struggling noise, you know in manual transmissions when they dont go in gear properly like the clutch doesnt go in far enough or whatever, kinda like that noise but more whiny than clattery.

and is that easy to fix/get fixed?
I had it on the Telstar. A bit of metal gets into the oil feeder system and jams against a oil distributino hole, blocking it and the no oil gets onto the moving part....hence the re******t tapping noise.
Another poissiblity is that hydraulic lifters don't have the oil in the little reservior on the lifters (or so I am told) and that makes the tapping noise. this last one is okay...the reservior fills up eventually and it goes quiet. Somtimes its a oil level prolems or the oil is rather viscous.
