sub into EL

okay i apoligise if this is a stupid question but im car audio ignorant.

i have a EL XR and i want to fit a sub, it has the ford tape/cd comp deck with 6 stack in the boot.
do i need to change this deck to run a sub or do i just tap into one of the speaker wires to get signal for the amp?

im also going to fit better speakers i was going to fit 6 x 9 in the back but i thought with a sub 6 round might surfice plus they will look more stock
any suggestions?

thanks in advance

I'd suggest you replace the H/U. You'll need pre-outs, I doubt an XR unit will have these. Second don't bother with 6x9's, they are a waist IMO, they generally need an amp and how often do you sit in the back? The standard ones will do. Third, I'd put a set of high quallity spits up the front.

It depends on your budget.

well if you dont want to change your headunit, just get a set of good quality HI/LOW convertors, which act like RCAs. You can get them from any quality car stereo joint, they work well, and will fill your needs easily.
