Supra 5 Speed

Any one know why the Supra 5 speed box has a round metal shield at the back of the extention housing the fits onto the box & covers part of the output shaft.

Do these serve a purpose and can they be removed.

Call Dellow Automotive in Sydney - they will tell you if and how to remove it. The only purpose I can imagine is that it will prevent any oil seepage from being sprayed up onto the underbody.

Id say it would be for a precautionary thing, my Supra had it..I thouhgt it was incase the tailshaft fell out or uni's gave way at least it wouldnt spear into the ground.

Could be wrong, but it felt right at the time.

It is not long enough to prevent the tailshaft dropping on the ground if a uni gives way so ....

it's just a splash gaurd. Stops spray from the road splashing up there and also oil seepage spraying around...

Thanks for the reply's, I have since found out that this is a splash guard and it can be easily removed by lightly tapping it off from the gear box. I just was'nt sure what it was since all the previous gearboxes I have had in my fords (Borg warner single rails) have never had such a thing.
