Temperature Gauge

Hey guys lately I have noticed that my temp gauge has begun to wander a little, usually my temp guage sits between the O and the R ( Spac dash ) but lately going up and down hills it has been reaching the R and sometimes the A. At first I thought it was due to my inability to get the alternator belt tight enough, but I noticed the other day I went over a bump and the gauge rose then i hit another bump and it dropped back to where it should be

Has anyone had anything like this happen before?

The system has been recently flushed and has a relatively new thermostat which I checked prior to installation

Any ideas? stuffed sender unit? stuffed gauge?

Oh and while im on the topic of cooling systems, Ive been wanting to fit one of those low loevel coolant warning sensors but I dont have the loom ( GL ) I was wondering how they are hooked up exactly?
Obviously I need the sensor and locking ring, a bit of wire, but where does it connect? do you have to run two wires, one earth and one to the back of the instrument cluster etc? any help appreciated
