Okay I've been starting to look into the whole idea of converting my old EA 3.9cfi clutch fan to thermo fans. I wasn't going to start looking for another few months but it seems the clutch is on its way out so now is as good a time as any.
I found an old post on exactly what I was looking for. Now here is my problem, which model thermo fans are the most efficient/easiest to install. I found a set of EL twin thermos for around $130 but someone from the post I had found claimed they were so loud he could here them over his 351. So which would suit best? EB model thermos? EF? I have no idea what to look for, help me!
EF/EL fans are noisy as in you can hear them sucking the air through, aftermarket are alot quiter, I have aftermaket thermos, and they are dead quiet compared to EL's and do a good enough job, but the EL's with the shroud design etc, will cool alot quicker for the small trade off of in noise. I got a good deal on my after market, but given the chance again, I would try get EF/EL thermos but they are tight fit.
AU thermos will not clear the water pump etc in the EA, you need to change to serpentine belt, even then its a tight fit.

IF YOU DONT TRY IT YOU WONT KNOW.
I've got EL thermos in my EB, they make a bit of noise, but no where near as much as the crappy clutch fan did. And it's not like they are on all the time.
i was told by a FORD wrecker that the EF's are varible speed and have 2 plugs, where as the EL are single speed and use only 1 plug making it much easier for hooking up.
