Hey, just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas. I've got some play in the front wheels / steering of my 1990 EA S Pak. You can feel and hear it when you are driving on slightly rough roads or dirt roads and when you hit bumps. There is no play in the actual steering (side to side) but you can feel the play (as you hit bumps) coming through to the steering wheel. It's not major, just annoying.
I think most of the play is coming from the tie rod ends and I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?
Assuming that the tie rod ends are causing the problem can I replace them with the wheels on the ground or with the front wheels on a wheel stand? and will I need an alignment if I put the new ones on as far as the existing nut?
If anyone can give me some help it would be greatly appriciated, thanks.
Yes you can do it yourself; jack up wheels, remove tyres, loosen robber bellows lock clamp, count turns to unthread and ensure new rods are threaded on same amount (also mark end of rod thread with a scribe. Yes you wheel need a tie rod ball joint seperator tool and a wheel alignment.
More likely the bushes, If its got more than 150k kms all the front end bushes will be past thier used by date.
