Is there any easy way to check the timing on the car, without having to find someone with a timing light and stuff? Even just check it approximately?
I think my distributor cap has been turned, and the car now turns a bit before starting, and the car eels a little bit down on power...

no, there no way you will even get an aproximation of the timing without the timing light. if you cant afford one just buy it from k-mart and return it when your finished.

you definitley need a timing light to check it, you can get cheapy ones from repco and the likes for $20-30
