Hey, I own a 1998 El Fairmont with the 1600kg towpack. I want to tow a car trailor with another car on it but I want to make sure my car is up to the job of towing it first. so my questions are how would i check to ensure my car has the transmission cooler fitted and also what is the load distributing hitch including heavy duty adjustable ball mount and spring bars as specified for the heavy duty tow pack and what does it do and can it be fitted to my existing towpack to give me some extra towing capacity

See if your trans lines go straight to the radiator on the right side near battery, or come from in front of the radiator back to the radiator. If they go straight to the radiator, no cooler. If it is a factory heavy duty tow pack it will come with the cooler. Be very carefull with your weight being towed as it is be illegal to tow overweight. Also be very carefull with weight distribution on the trailer. I would also recommend a trans service before and regularly if you intend to do a bit of it.

the h/duty tow pack is a totally different package. You have to remove what you have on there and fit the new one if you wanted that. You'll be able to tow a car with your current setup.

I've got the same EL with a 1600kg tow pack. I've towed my XB and many other cars inc an XB wagon.
