tranny swap? 390 to 460, will it work?

themaninthehat Registered User Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Shelbyville, Il Age: 37 Posts: 25	tranny swap? 390 to 460, will it work? i have a bad tranny in a 74 f-100, and agood one in 76 f1-50. the 74 has a 390 and the 76 has a 460. both are c-6 trannys to 4 x 4. Can i swap?

Afraid not, Fe torque converter has a larger pilot and the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. Don't know if you can change torque converters and bellhousings from one tranny to the other or not, as I don't really know much about auto's.
