trouble fitting xplode H/U in AU2

hey guys,

I have been trying to fit my sony xplode head unit into my AU2. I have removed the original double din not a problem, but when I put the new H/U in, it looks... well basically RAT SH!T!!

Because the dash is sloped, and the corners of the din hole are rounded, and my new H/U is resonably rectangle, you can see gaps all the way around it, and basically it looks dodgy.

I was wondering what everyone else has done with their new head unit, e.g. is there some thing I can fit to make it look more factory fitted, or am I stuck with it looking like a dogs breakfast? obviously Im not talking about the second din hole, where the coin change compartment goes.

any pics would also be great, im pretty disheartend after spending all this money, and it looks so second rate!!

cheers

steve

I took it out again, because I was so pissed off with its appearance, if I get a chance I will stick it in again and take pics.

Have you changed your h/u?

Also I called tonkins car audio, and they said I could get this plate fitted for au's to make it look factory, but its $120, and they have to order it so I cant see it before it arrives, has anyone seen these?

yeah i've changed mine, its a jvc. It came with a plastic frame that goes round the h/u slot perimeter (which I painted black) and imho it makes the fit look better. Still not factory but considering the din space is curved (as you said) I'm happy with it.

[Edit: Not a great pic (the motorised face has it sitting at an angle) but you can see the plastic frame thingie ?

ive fitted an explode head unit into my AU
it came with a plastic surround like au2_xpack said, i just mounted the unit a bit further out so this surround sat infront of the hole so it covered everything

and with the coin slot thing i modified mine so that the top front edge of it was straight rather than having the curve in it which stuck out infront of the flat head unit

can give you more details if needed
p.s. i also dont know if there is much difference between series 1 and series 2 but thats how i did mine

sorry for the poor pic quality but the pic i had was pretty small
the black outside bit is the surround that covered it all nicely
