General TechHave a question that is not covered by one of the other categories? This is the forum for all other items not specifically covered in other categories.
A mate of mine owns a 1989 EA S with a tired old 3.9 CFI Engine.
Now he wants to put in an AU XR6 4.0L VCT Engine, but the biggest prob we have is that we are not exactly sure how the VCT Works and wether or not it runs from the computer
It has two wire's, one goes to the oil pressure switch and the other one goes WHERE?
It would be great to run the VCT if possible. Any Ideas? Has it been done before?
Any ideas are appreciated.
TIA
PS: You can see the finished product at next years Summernats!
I am not sure if the AU engine would fit, remember with the AU they changed to a cast sump and modified the crossmember to suit, so the cast sump may not clear the crossmember in the EA, then again it might, I am not 100% sure either way, it's something you will need to check out.
We have got a written off XR6 organized but we dont realy want to change the computer if it can be helped as the engine alone is $2500, then we need wiring looms, and also probly gonna have to run a new radiator with thermo fans because after all this is done its gonna get a Powerdyne Supercharger Kit. If you read the latest Zoom there is a Silver EL which has done the S/C Kit and gotten something like 265 Kw at the rears.
How good will it be with a fully functional VCT Engine :)

What a fukin beast. It would be an absoloute laugh seeing some un-suspecting commo driver lineing that thing up at the lights.
An interesting point was that it has a standard head... imagine if you went all out on the head work, as well as cam etc. Sounds like ther is still plenty of room for improvement.
Well done XE man!!!!!

The EA-AU donks are exectly the same except for some wiring and the ecu's/efi so assuming you can get this done your EA will eat allot of fanciered cars for breakfast.Wwith the XR6 you get a few more fancier bit and VCT inside yours with a 5 speed those fancy v8's and ricers better watch out...
Well I'm sure it's possible, however, is it worth the hassel. I mean, if your going to use forced induction, you will probably be better off going for an EL XR engine. There cheaper to buy, so you could spend the extra money on the induction system.
If I were to do it personally, I would rebuild the existing bottom end of the EA for max strength. Slap on an EL XR head and manifold, with some head work done. I would then spend the rest of the money on a Unichip and the induction system.
