My tailgate on my wagon wont open!!! Ive tried using the key and the power lock button but still wont open. Is this why i see so many wagons with a new number plate surround?? I will need to brake it to get at the locking mechanism huh? Anyone had this problem??

the linkage has come off... you will need to hole just to the right of the centre bolt hole in the bezel.. no need to get a new one just make the hole big enuff to get a few fingers in to manually pull the mechanism open.. the number plate covers the hole you need to make.. Once you have it open you can remove the rear fascia and get at it properly to hook the cable back up

Don't drill a hole!
Mine got stuck on my EF11, all I did was climb into the box and pry the locking mechanism apart with a screwdriver at floor level.
Didn't even scratch the paint.
