Water pump leaking?

Hi all,
i have been losing coolant lately so I had a look under my car (1996 EF I6), and i found coolant leaking from what looks like a round hole in the bottem of the water pump. i am wondering what the hell the round hole is for, and what does this mean, what will need to be fixed?
thanks for your help

Re: Water pump leaking?

That hole is there to allow any coolant that does get past the seal to drain away. It means that you have a bearing and or seal starting to fail.

Re: Water pump leaking?

Get a new pump, or do what I did to the XF, dump a couple of cans bars stop leak into it, stopped it for about 2 years, then she really stuffed up, and when stopped would loose half the water, so I replaced it.

Morale, buy a new one and fit it, it really is worth the effort :0)
