I think you can pick a water pump for a EA falcon at super cheap auto for about $60.

Also it's a good idea to get the ford special tool for taking off the fan bolt. Then it's just a matter of loosening the tensioner bolt(on the alternator) and removing the 4 bolts holding the pump on.

Also it's a good idea to go find a new O-ring as well

I just changed my water pump a few weeks ago after it started leaking water.
I got mine for $71 from AutoPro. You should get a new gasket and O-Ring with it.
You should consider doing it yourself, save some money, its a VERY easy job to do...
I managed to get the fan bolt off with a nomal adjustable spanner, no special tools.

do it yourself its easy as! I didn't use any special tool on the ED, just a lever and a hammer :s5 that way I could turn the nut before the fan turned, loostened first go that way then the rest is easy!

If you arent mechanically able your probably loking at $150 to $200 to get it fixed. That includes the cost of the pump.

the water pump seized on my toyota a while back...go to coventry spares for aftermarket parts...i had no dramas with any of their parts i had exchanged for toyota ones...Pump was like $80...i cant say the ford would be much more if as much...make sure to replace the belt too...if the water pumps that old and worn, chances are the belts about stuffed too...

Re: Water pump is on the way out.

i replaced the water pump on my ef falcon yesterday and found that they dont have bolts or anything holding the pulley on - ford said they go on and stay on. got replacement pump at super cheap for $70 then had to go back to ford for a new pulley. easy as piss to put in, but getting the new pulley on the pump is very difficult - it has to be compressed on with a press. my brother is an engineer and so he did it 4 me.

runs perfect now though, doesnt go past the lowest heat rating! even on hot days.

Re: Water pump is on the way out.

$150 to $200? Depends on what the mechanic does - some pull the power steering pump and all out to get to it and some don't.

I just got mine done and a viscous hub for $200 with the viscous hub being worth $90 odd alone in parts. But I reckon $150 ain't bad I spose..

Thanks for all the info, but it got done a few days after i posted that.

I ended up paying about 200 for the new water pump, new a/c bearing and belt, plus labour.

I felt that was a good price.

Thanks
