i know that the el fairmont ghia had the xr6 engine but did the series 1 or 2 ef fairmont ghia have the xr6 engine. and if so whats the difference between a f/mont ghia and xr6

EF had the regular engine, series II gained the Tickford one. I believe the series II still produced a little less power than the XR6 because it had a quieter exhaust.

Also ECU is slightly different. Shift pattern is the same as the base model in econ mode, in power mode it gets XR6 shift pattern.

Exhaust is the stock one. XR6 164kw, Ghia 162kw.

XR6 got the manaul (main selling point these days)
looks better (matter of opinion)
front power windows
abs/cruise options??

the ghia just had a lot more stuff standard, and more options available to it.
if you want a manual, XR6 would be the way to go, if you don't care then get hte Ghia :)
