What makes an ea an ea?

I have been wondering this for ages, at what point does an ea stop being an ea? For example if you have a 4.0lt engine, or eb bonnet or eb rear garnish. When would you classify the car as something else, not what is written on complience plate but where would you draw the line?

I draw the line with the body - ie if I got an ED shell.

This is just my opinion, but I would have to say when you can pass the car off as being something else like an EB. If you can say to someone, this is an EB and they believe you then you can stop calling it an EA. It wouldn't be hard to make any EA look like an EB II. Just colour code mirrors, bumpers & door handles. Swap the bonnet and rear garnish and hey presto... There's your EB - Too easy really.

No EB had colour coded handles mate :) but I know what you mean.

I just had another idea: I'm currently researching the possibilty of installing an ED dash shell, and in the process putting foam around every possible damn cable so there will be no squeaks and rattles.

My car will no longer be an EA at that point...

Only kidding mate :)

For what it's worth, I want to keep the EA front and rear styling no matter what I do to the rest of the car.

Beaten to the first post by a matter of 10 seconds...

Umm... yeah my knowledge on the EA-EDs still isn't great so forgive my mistake. But you would still have to replace the door handles because EB ones are smoother and shinier.

Anyway, you knew what I meant so I will shut up now :)

Damn right, keep the EA styling. I hate the look of the EB/ED rears, the just look to damn plasticky. Especially the smooth plastic black door handles, yuck. The ED grill is ugly too in my opinion, but hey each to his own.

Right on Goodz, I agree the ED grill is a shocker. I like both the EA and EB grills, but I would probably keep the EA grill because that's exactly what my car is - an EA. I like the rear of my car, so that ain't changing for anything.

In my personal opinion, the ED grille is the nicest of the lot. Trouble is, it doesn't match the rest of the car - therefore gives the illusion of being unattractive. The same grille was seen on the last Mondeo seen locally, which look very smart.

As for the EB front and rear styling, I like it, but not to the point of wanting to change my car. I think it is a bit more 'bland', but also more 'refined'.
