I have just got myself a 1984 3.3 Auto Falcon XF.....filled it up with $80 of unleaded petrol

...seems to be running ok, although it does take some time to get warmed up.
Looking at specs of all the old falcons on the net I have started thinking.....am I putting the right petrol in the car? or do I need leaded?....any ideas how I can tell? The car was built in Dec'84. I don't have any of the original paper work.

Also.....can anybody give me any addresses of good scrap yards in sydney?

1984 im pretty sure that runs super... most pre 86 vehicals run super...
u can always ring ford... they should be able to tell ya

Lead replacement is the stuff you need.

I think you can also run the normal stuff if you add the fuel additive (for your valves??).

Thats about as technical as I think I can go. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Check your manual if you've still got it. Our ole XE runs on LRP. If you run a leaded car on unleaded, you'll screw up your valve seals. Add some valvemaster or similar product and she'll be fine.

On leaded cars, the valve seals are soft, and harden and crack if the fuel has no lead, or additive to keep it soft. If they deteriate, they leak, and your engine will need to be pulled down to repair it, and thats rather costly.

She needs 97 octane premium fuel (super) <---- From the owners manual

Mobil synergy 8000 98 RON
Mobil synergy 2000 91 RON
Mobil synergy Lrp 96 RON

Best bet is to use premium unleaded

97 octane premium fuel (super).......so is that leaded or unleaded?!? Sorry I am english and we have totally different names for all our fuels. haha

If it's designed to run unleaded, shouldn't the fuel fuller have the unleaded nozzle restrictor?

well you can only buy unleaded anyway.....you have to put the additive in the fuel to make it into leaded petrol don't you......?

if in doubt you can go look at the front bumper. if it has blinkers in the side of the bumper (provided it is the original bumper) then it is unleaded. it should also have a fuel restrictor in the tank opening so you cant put the fat leaded pumphandle into it if that makes sense.

1984 is definately leaded. You can run it on premium if you want but you'll need to add something to lubricating the head.
