Ok,
I have bought a 1971 Ltd for $600, the body is in quite good shape, but it doesnt shift properly, wont stay in park, car will role, the engine mounts are broken, the exhaust has a hole in it, and its leaking somewhere, either from the roof or weatherstripping.

someone said i need a new tranny so far.

what should i do? if i fix up this car do you think i would get my money back that i put into it?

Need some advice, i would appreciate it.

Get your money back?
is it a project or something for yourself?
if its a project....sell it on..if the body is that good you won't lose.

if its for yourself, much of that stuff is cheap....the tranny is probably the biggest issue, and is most likely a vac or kickdown issue.

In vic, Vicroads work on $3000 for a car you should get a roadworthy....base on that what its going to cost you. I have found it to be a good benchmark for 'cheap' projects.

I would like it to be a project, but i dont want it to be majour parts that i have to replace. And i also would like to make the money back if i decide to sell it.

Ok, i have someone that will fix some stuff, he is getting engine mounts, and he has a used tranny, but he has to fix it, so i have to buy a transmission kit or something he said and he will do it. he wont charge for labour, just for parts.

so far he said
mounts
tranny
radiator hose
and fixing the reason of why it doesnt stay in park would cost me around $400.

he wont have enough time to look at the breaks, however i believe the emergency brakes do not work, any ideas of how much that would cost.

i cant get my money back.

they said it would be an easy safety, oh ya

if you play with old cars...the attitude is that is cheaper than a new car...profitable?? about as profitable as a new car...just the numbers are smaller

Thanks Jas, im gonna start working on it, see how it goes, hopefully later on rebuild the engine stuff like that.

With a different tranny it should stay in park if set up properly, the park dog is probbaly shot in the old one.Just fixed a ch*v with same problem, parts were $30.00.Ford may be more but not shure.
