evertime i start the escort first start it puffs a white smoke then after thats its ok. any ideas guys maybe i need to go back and ring then mechaincs neck.

dunno about yours but my first car did this, crapy mazda design had the same bolts that held the head down also held down the cam shaft etc so i could never change the valve stem seals without undoing the head, so i was told anyway.

But anyway, was doing the same thing, and only on cold startup and was valve stem seals.

Didnt you just get the head reco'd ?
Did you get the rings etc done as well? White puffs are usually associated with fuel, is this with the choke on in the mornings? if so thats perfectly normal. If you didnt have the seals done than it is a possibility.

White smoke could be steam from deffective head,cracked, sealing etc. Oil is usually blue, fuel is usually black..Could be carbon build up esp leaded cars but theres no lead these days..
Was the inlet gasget sealed good where the water passage is??
Between 2 & 3 cylinders..

Hrmm had the Head recod just 4 days ago. Rings were in good nick left them alone. never did this b4 until he touched the head. Does it all the time when starting. Mechanic goes he changed all the steam seals and stuff. maybe might pay him a vist with my fist. probley put the old ones back. Might check out the inlet gasket make sure the bolts are tight.

BTW sounds like the mechanic didnt reco the head that good to The 1st head had a crack then he got another one. still has pressure comin from the xorst not as much but i can feel it. Hope the %#$ can fix it for free payed him alot of cash for nuffin.

Take it back. That just shouldn't happen with a reco'd head.

i agree, take it back for sure...theres no way I'd be happy with it. Ddi he shave the head? if he did its poossible the machining marks are preventing a good seal with the head gasket...if he DIDNT shave the head then its also possible its warped

wait a sec...are you running that valve lube??
Upper cylinder lubricant burns off as white....if you are using it cease now and see how it goes before ripping your mechanics head off

Got it checked today for free. Timing was out. white smoke seemed to not come when it is ideling now. Got that flashlube today gonna put unleaded. one question can the cops or epa stuff me if they see white smoke ?
