The Ed iam looking at buying blows out a white smoke when flattened, or underload but only when cold.

any ideas?

Probably only condensation.
Is it using any water? Check the plugs to see if they have that "just washed" look.

Is there any white cloudy foam on your oil filler cap or rocker cover? Suspect head gasget or re torque head bolts..White out exhaust is usually steam / water getting in there or condensation on initiall start up...

How many k's has the car done?

It could be valve stem seals,
Blocked PCV,
Sticky or worn rings,
or the common plenum soaked in oil problem EA/EB/ED's have.
