OK guys/gals I'm trawling for suggestions here..

I've got a 77 XC sedan.. with orig 3.3l and 3 on tree manual

what can i do, aside from the 'norm' of putting in a V8 (im after something different), to warm up the beast?

im interested in eventually, when finance permits, either s/c or turbo.. leaning towards s/c

comments? ideas? lay em down below :D

also how hard is it to convert 3spd column to 5spd floor, and rough costs

This is almost the same as my car - except i've got a 4.1
Apparantly there's heaps you can do to these engines.

Exhaust and extractors can be a good start.

These models also came with a 4 speed floor shift (top loader or single rail) and i believe the xd ones are able to be used. I think they are pretty cheap and easy to find. But i'm sure there was no 5 speed, unless you're talking about putting a different model in.

If you're looking for forced induction, i have seen an xf x-flow with a turbo and it's really nice. That's a 250 though.

I think you can turn the 3.3 into a 4.1. I think that it's the stroke and compression that's different. Not too sure about that though.

i thought that maybe a later 5spd could be mated up... id prefer a 5 over a 4 :)

Um, the first thing I would do is loose that little engine. Not enough torque to shift that big heavy body. My suggestion would be to go the V8 route. Just my 2 cents.

yeah i know the V8.. but aside from that... everyone does that.. not saying its bad... i just wanna do somethin different

get rid of the 3.3 .. the 4.1 is barely cabale of propelling it along let alone that. If you want to retain the 6 cyl get a XF 4.1 .. by then they had a very sweet 6 pack. Do some mods to that and that will do OK.

Really, if you want to cruise stick with the 6 .. if you want to go fast easily and cheap(er) go the V8

If you want effortless power go a V8, but if your on a budget just put a recon or worked 4.1 in it an a BW Singlerail & factory consol. If the cars in good condition & you think its worth spending the money, do it. If not just but another XC with V8.

the car is in good original condition, albeit replaced lhs front guard and bonnet from when a tree fell on it.. and it's not going to be for huge speed, just a nice smooth cruise, with some poke when needed.. and it seems to move ok standard to me.. even with the three speed... good ideas thou :)

If you want to be different and have a play, get a OHC donk from an EA or newer, grabbing the trans would be a good idea too.

could nt of said it better my self!!!!

its cheaper to i got good low kay ef motor complete for 650 cept for box and computer
so i got a 157kw's for 650!!!!!
so look around the trader and get one of the latter model ones cos they are going cheap now a days.
