XD mounts same as EA engine mounts ?a 351 into a EA will it go ?
Gday,
Im just woundering if any one knows if that the XD has the same engine mounts as a EA.What i want to do is take the 351 out of the XD and put in the EA........as anyone done this before or know of any one ?
The EA has a 3.9 on gas and the XD is 351 on gas so i guess you could take the 351 out put in the EA and put straight on the gas ?
Also would the 9inch diff off the XD fit stright on under a EA ?
The EA is in top order with full EB GT body kit and respray all it is missing is some good old aussie grunt,so i feel it be worth while doing abit of work in the engine bay to make it a speacil EA EB GT  :s6:
Any ideas would be great
cheers,
This is a pic of the beast front on :s4 all she needs is a 351
assuming that the 351 you are planning on installing to an ea shape body, is a 351 Cleveland, your gonna have a lot of trouble and an empty wallet... clevelands are too wide for the later model fords, and all require strut tower mods. i have already had this quoted @ approx $8000 which is a waste when considering that the 351 windsor bolts straight in. but then with decent power upgrade you have to realise that the t5 (if manual) will never be able to handle the power, and that the Borg Warner 21 3 sp. auto will have an unhappy short life. Top loaders and C4's (or better) are the only substitute, and are also the best value for money, but then you will also have to modify the transmission tunnel. Once you have completed all this, then it comes down to a 9" diff, which will have to be fabricated to suit the coil over shocks instead of leaf spring.... if your lucky, you might be able to find one in the trading post for under $1200.00 but in my opinion i think the better alternative to spending $20 000+ on a V8 EA 4sp. falcon, i'd rather prefer a vl turbo commodore (just kidding), nah seriously, consider twin turbocharging a 4ltr 5sp. (tremac tko or 6sp tremac t56)... Zoom Magazine have already turbo chargerd a 4.0ltr and managed 450 engine bhp on 10psi of boost.. also you have decent economy, with adjustable boost pressure (low boost for cruising and high boost 18-20psi for racing) and this would be a fraction of the cost of running and building a V8.
sorry if this sounds dis hearting but it is reality, maybe you should rethink this, like i have
i really dont know,I thought that engines from the XD would fit the EA because i was told that the engine mounts are the same which i gather they are.
what i was planing because the EA EB GT is a nice car its just gutless i thought the cheapest way would buy a old XD and take everything out of that and put in the EA but this sounds like not the case here,I was hoping that the stuff from the XD would nearly bolt in with out to much work.
Ive got a top loader i spose that wouldnt fit either ?
so what ill be better off doing is taking the body kit off the car flog the car off and put it on my other EA which has a Xr6 engine in it which is about 10 times faster than The ea eb gt 3.9 on gas twin turbo it and put a ssix speed in it ?
what do you say is better a supercharger or turbo ?
all i want is a nice EA with lots of power so i can show everyone up who knocks fords
people might say its a waste of money spending money on a old EA but i love them there top cars nice compact looking cars and i love the EB GT body kit the best around i reckon
I think the car in the above article went on to become this one. http://eafalcon.com/eagt.htm
Note the rumoured reintroduction of the GTHO nameplate back in 1991. Still waiting.......
i think theres to much work for a simple idea i had
and after all that work to do the 1/4 mile in 15.4 it hardly seems worth it its nothin to get excited about but sure would sound a treat
But im gathering you want a cheap way out..??? well... there is none! unless u wanna by an ET Turbo shitbox or like someone mentioned.. a VL... cheap performance.
Hey falcon kid, capa quote 225kw on the ed 4L, in standard trim, on the other hand if you do work to your car first say you achieve 150rwkw a 9psi powerdyne will give you about another 40 to 50kw at the rears if set up write, so your looking at around 190-200rwkw which I believe would be good for a low 13, then put it on nos and it make you about 240-250 at the rears, and should be good for a low 12 quater, just ask blownef6, he will tell you.
Yeah id be putting a 5speed in there and an XR6 diff ratio (3.45) it would make a World of difference.
Id also be converting to straight gas, or back to straight Petrol:smokin: Running both your performance, economy, handling all suffer.
$4500 is drive in/drive out, from air filter to exhaust tip.
But im not sure if the Jim Mock stuff is compatible with LPG anyway...?
Mine goes alright, but could be better (and will be soon :cheer: )
For the cost of converting to an old Clevo V8 (straight LPG only - EPA laws), you could have a nice big turbo hanging off the side making twice the power. Lagg? On a small 4 cyl yes, but not when your talking about an engine as large as 4L and one with such long stroke. Youll make more power with a single turbo than twins, those are just for smaller engined cars to reduce lagg.....
Im from the Canberra region also so we should catch up sometime! I think ive seen your car around before?
hehehe well its on stright gas or stright petrol are you confuess now
ive got two EAs ones got the XR6 in it stright petrol and the other has the full EB GT body kit which is on stright gas.Orginaly i wanted to try put a 351 in the GT body kit one as its 3.9 on gas not much go but its a top looking car.But that seem abit too much work.
So now im talking about the other EA with the XR motor because it gos like a gun now just imagine how good a turbo could make it go.put some fat chicks in the back and it would do wheel stands taking off at the lights lol hehe
I like the EA with the XR6 motor it looks good under the hood and who ever put it in done a good job and its a ghia all eltric and everything works but theres abit of rust in the body.
the EA EB GT is a nice sexy looking car resprayed matlic green but its just a GL. and theres no petrol tank straight gas and i thought about putting the Xr6 in the GL but im not ganna put that on gas. and stuff putting a tank pump and hoses in it.
so ive got two EAs i just want one with the EB GT kit with some woop arse behind the back wheels
yeah im in canberra,i doubt if you seen mine EA EB GT its the church car i only drive it on sundays
as my other EA yeah you might of seen her its just white so that norrows it down lol
falcon kid...i agree...there are not enuf sexy EA's around...but...i am hoping to seriously mod the crap outta mine...(it's a dream)
only prob is...i need to win lotto first...every keeps laffin at my ideas...but if it should come to pass...look out...
but for time being..i wanna turbo mine...are there any websites ppl can direct me too..that sell kits or whatever...coz i got no idea when it comes to this stuff...
the CLEVO is a very very easy fit into a EA , V8fordpower on here did one ( I only helped on the simple stuff as I am not a mechanic!)
The Clevo fits better in a EA than in a XD , the main probs been the slope of the bonnet if going for big manifolds and induction and the need for customs extractors.
I will ask him to email me the digital photos he took.
bdave351 how are you ? you sound like a guy whos talking sence i like it
Thats what i wanted to hear that the Clevo fits in a EA easy.
So v8ford power drop a v8 in his EA so what would it be out of ? was it a 302 or 351 is running it on gas ?
what i want to do is pull the 3.9 and drop a eight stright in he.
My plain was to buy a XD with a v8 and pull it out and put in the EA but people said it was no go.
i be interested to see the pics and any other interesting stuff that may help
LPG to be legal ,
He ran twin GRA throttle bodies (LPG) on a high rise single plane manifold. This meant he had to modify the bonnet with two humps about 5-10 cm high and 20-30cm wide as they came up just to much.
He spent a lot of time working on the car getting the niggley things right (ie huge radiator so a bit of mods to the front) but the car was shaping up as a weapon before a commodore wrote it off at brighton (bloody blind GHMers!!)
Just think though about replacing everything in the car (as you kinda need to do in a full resto of any old car) from bushes thru shocks and tailshaft to suit the new application.
Sleep soon....
BD
PS dont remember the engine mounts! EB v8 crossmember worked though.
PPS I agree with XAcoupe , depends on wether you want to go fast!! UP THE CLEVO!
If he wrote it off, that means he should have some left overs ? lol like the 9inch and all there other bits and parts ? So what has he done with the beast ?
sounds like a weapen, maybe if he is interested and because he knows what he is doing and if he has the time i could pay him to make anthor weapen
I laugh when I read posts from people who have absolutely no idea yet will post anyway.
If you get a STANDARD EB-ED V8 crossmember and two STANDARD engine mounts from same car the motor will bolt STRAIGHT in. STRAIGHT IN.
Problems:
1. Where the back of the left hand head goes is where the heater hoses exit the firewall. If you can bend em then bend em. Ideal solution is get 2 90 degree elbows put on.
2. Gearbox crossmember sits about 3 or so inches back for a c4/c10. I got a sturdy piece of steel plate, drilled it to match the bolt holes on the crossmember and the box and bolted the sucker up. Easy!
3. Headers. No standard headers will fit. I had custom ones made which were a bit expensive. Since then I have spoken to people who have had Windsor 4-2-1 type headers modified and they say it is really pretty simple. Sounds easier to me.
4. Starter motor. If you use the standard clevo clacker type thing you will probably have dramas. If you bolt on one of the gear reduction jobbies then it fits quite easy.
5. Dave mentioned my bonnet ... at the time when it wouldnt fit under the bonnet properly I was running a 1 inch bakelite spacer and a 1 inch alloy spacer. Also the GRA twin mixers sit quite high and one of the spacers I was running was to clear my high rise Ford Motorsport rocker covers.
6. Custom talishaft... no biggy just different length.
7. I had a nine inch in and had the thing special made pretty much exactly the same as you would put in an XF sedan. I could no longer run the standard rear sway bar cos it hit the diff. I sold the diff heaps ago. You wont need one of you only running 14's or so... just get a LSD or even a mini spool for your borgy.
8. The shift linkages on BW boxes are on the right side, Ford boxes on the left. I ran a B&M ratchet shifter cos it looked sexy and was an easy fix.
A few other things to consider
- EL upper control arms will bolt straight on to EA (not lower though) and are far superior.
- EL rack is solid mounted and earlier racks are not. They are well known to flog out the bushes so either get a reco one with urethane bushes or even better bolt in the EL one. Straight in!!
- EF/EL XR6 & 8 Falcons have a different rear plate on the diff. The Watts link mount point is 25 mm lower. The same amount that a XR8 or 6 is lowered from factory. Coincidence??? Nup. They used to cost about $200 ish new but that was a long time ago. It is well worth the trouble to fit that mod... at least Tickford thought so.
- EB2 upper front control arms have the ball joint mounted further back in the arm. This gives the car more caster making the car want to steer straighter and the steering a little heavier. More feel to I reckon. I also fitted camber/caster kits at the same time and these mods made a HUGE difference to the car. Was heaps nice to drive then and was not an expensive mod.
- Brake pads... fit metal kings at least. My car used to pull up quite well with them in it. They are harder on discs than standard pads but are far superior. What would you rather be harder on, brakes or your front bumper bar?
Some people have suggested that the clevo is too heavy and that the EA wont handle it. The car i owned handled quite well and drove really nicely. I am strongly considering building another car that is much more standard for a drive car. I flogged my EA... burnouts, drags and donuts and the car itself was never a problem.
PS: I never took any photos of the car....it was a bit messy. My intention was always to get the mechanicals right and then put the running gear into a car with nice paint. I have some photos of the motor though.
