hi guys
just wondering what the steering box ratio is in an xe esp because i know that the xd esp ran a 16:1 ratio like the gt's because i wanna fit a reco steering box 2 my car i dunno whether to gaet a chaneover or get mine recod if thats the case.
any info appreciated.

The workshop manuals for XD and XE only list the 20:1 steering box.

I'm unaware of the quick ratio box being available since the XY.

It's easy to check what your ratio is - if you have 5 turns lock to lock it is 20:1; if it has 4 turns lock to lock it is 16:1.

I actually thought all XE ESPs had power steering - the ratios for the power steering boxes were the same for all models ie. there was no quick ratio box. Power stering = approx 3 turns lock to lock.

yeah mine has power steering do u know where i can get an xe esp workshop manual or will a xe v8 workshop manual will be the same

XD ESPs were available as both Falcon and Fairmont Ghia - Ghias had power steering as standard but the falcon got the 16:1 ratio manual steering (of course power steering was optional. Mine is a Falcon ESP and the steering is bloody heavy!! - many a year has passed so far where I've said I'll convert it to Power steering and I've owned for 19years LoL)

As all ESPs in XE were Fairmont Ghia based they should all have power assistance - According to the XE factory repair manual Ratio is variable (Min on lock) 11.1 and max on centre) 17.5:1 - Max turns stop to stop = 2.6

Means not too much to me but it's got to be better than a manual 16:1 box

so where can i get one of theese workshop manuals and is there a specific workshop manual for the esp as i am trying to restore mine as close too as factory but with a worked motor and lowered suspension that is why i wanna find a workshop manual so bad.

I doubt Ford would still have them but it might be worth a call - It's Repair Manual WM22. Blue cover and covers XE ZK and FE models. If Ford can't help try a technical bookshop.

There is no separate manual for the ESP - the manual doesn't refer to the ESP much at all - everything for the ESP is same as for the Fairmont Ghia.

The major differences were with springs and shocks - I don't believe Ford can supply the shocks (Bilsteins) now, ONR. There were no engine mods to the ESP - gold snowflake wheels and badging were the only visual changes - and of course lower ride height by about 30mm.

I think you mean FD - FE LTDs came out in XF range.
