hi all
an old issue, but i am confused.....i am running a straight 6 cyl, xf motor with an original weber. living in the state of the free, where i can remove the emission control shit, i want to change the carby.
i have been advised to use a holley 450 with mech choke, and use an electric fuel pump.
i am after improved performance, with still retaining some suitable fuel economy. i do not want a ten second qtr mile, just a family car with some grunt when needed.
the reason i need help is that i am chewing fuel over 80klm per hour, and it needs continually adjusting.
people keep saying the o.e webers are good, but i have my doubts.....all and any advice will be appreciated.

That Weber may just need a good clean out and new gaskets and seals.

How much fuel are you chewing??

just in normal conditions, it chews twenty dollars every two days, so about 18 litres per 100klm, especially going over eighty klm per hour.
i have rebuild the carby twice, and have purchased yet another, my thinking is in the emission control system, something is not hooked up correct, and is throwing out the timing of the secondary throat, or something similar. but, all models are different, and a carby specialist wants to chatge me hundreds to fix it. hence me thinking of removing all emission stuff, and going straight carby and elec fuel pump.....or even going to standard xd carb with xd fuel pump, as both motors are the same.

That sounds like a lot of fuel all right.
Have you checked whether your return line to the tank is clear?
If it's blocked, the carby will be getting excess pressure - those Webers don't like that...

The Gregorys XF manual has a good section on the emissions control system - how it's connected and how it works - worth looking at to make sure yours is set up right...

The other thing to check is your ignition timing - if it is too retarded, fuel consumption will be terrible...
