XF Door bushes

The doors on my XF have seemed to have dropped. Has any one replaced the bushes and if so, how do you do it?

Re: XF Door bushes

Are you sure its the bushes and not a crack in the door...or adjust the striker plate. maybe.

Before removing door scibe around hinge.

Remove door trim

Depending on your tools get a suitable ratchet and socket not to big as the bolts go in to the tail lights(very long )
break the bolt with a spanner and remove with socket or what ever.
this is wear ratchet spanners come into there own , but not very durable for cracking or extra weight..

Blance and stuff around he presto the door is off

Scibe around hinge on the piller very inportant but there is often heaps of paint and what ever that dose that already .you can not worrie about removing it if you do not wish to but some times it can be esaeyer

Place in vince tap away on the bottom edge pin keep in mind hit the pin not the hing as they can bend and bind up after , you will need a podger or old but scew driver and tap away ,, before removeal if you have a digital camarea snap away as it is easey at this stadge to put it back togeather up side down , (a real bitch to find out when new bushes are already put in place ...) or a black marker will do it..

The bushes depending on how worn the are will fall out or need a little dig with the scew driver...
Put them in place and reasemble hinge then realigne with pin and tap away the correct way
The pin will need some burring at the end

Place tape on sill and a bit around back edge of door depending on condition of car.

Place door realine hinge sometimes the bolt at this stage will be a major pain aspeacily with the door frame , this is why you remove the trim before hand instead of now not frustrated and pissed at why it is so simple job can be so hard.,, so you can adjust the bolt cagde in side ...

After all this it should be as good as it gets , so id check all the other stuff before doing all this as it is a bitof a fiddly job..

Take your time and have some one handy who has a tronge back avilble to help.

good luck

Re: XF Door bushes

Could be rust in the body. I've seen a couple of cases where there is rust around the mounts of the hinges or where they have simply caved in a little.

Re: XF Door bushes

Easy way to find out if its the bushes open the door and see if you can lift it up and down at different angles when the door is open ie, open it at 45 degrees and lift it up and down, if there is play in the doors its ur bushes. When i replaced the bushes on my car i used xg and xh parts, cost me like $15 for both doors (trdae prices and 4 yrs ago).

Re: XF Door bushes

Hi guys,

just to bring up this subject again.

I have a 91 XF Ute, both door hinges need new bushes (lots of play in them). Do you have to remove the door to install the new bushes? I thought maybe you could knock the pin out and replace the bushes without taking the door off.

My driver side door also needs the mechanism replaced as I have to lift the handle and turn the key at the same time to get in!

Re: XF Door bushes

I replaced the entire hinges on my XE doors. Replacing them is easy, its the re-alignment of the doors that takes forever. It takes time and make sure you have someone to help. Try and tape the edges of the door so you dont scratch the paint work.

Good luck.

My next challenge is to repair those poorly designed XD/XE/XF external DOOR HANDLES!!!! They are a joke.

Re: XF Door bushes

its not the handles that are the problem...its the bars inside attached to them. replace them as they stretch....problem solved.
