Hi all,

Two niggles I'm having with the ol girl

The clutch packed it in last week and have since changed it (PBR new kit) and clutch cable (Ford genuine). Anyway, the clutch cable makes a slight squeaking noise as I press the clutch pedal to the floor. How do I stop the squeak???

Secondly, the engine is making sounds like a whipper snipper going through grass. This only happens with throttle open past half and under load. Is the engine pinging? If so is it simply a matter of adjusting the ignition timing???

Retard the timing and see how it goes. Also check the fan belt.

We used to call it "pinking" and not "pinging", sounds more like "pink".

Also make sure you use mid or high octane petrol.

My father's Corolla has the squeaking clutch problem - sounds a bit like a creaking door. I got under the dash and sprayed WD40 as far as the eye could see but that only succeeded in making the interior stink!
