Does anyone know whether an XR/T grille and headlight assembly would fit onto an XY without major mods. I have the XY in the driveway but I dont have the grille to try out. I know the bumper matches. I prefer a metal rather than plastic grille and my only other option is to make a custom job.

I can see why you want to get rid of the XY grille.... if I was you, fit a XW grill and you have instant class

I have never seen a XT-R grille on a XW-XY. Problem is XW & XYs have wrap around indicators but XR - XT don't. You would have to fit XR-XT guards as well. Personally I wouldn't bother. Can I ask why do you need a metal grille?

Not need, just want. Now that you mention the wrap around indicators I dont know how I forget about that. I feel that the plastic grille inserts are sort of cheap and I much prefer the look of the chrome grilles from the sixties and older. I have seen an XW with a grille insert that had been made from 12mm stainless rod in a pattern similar to original but it looked so much better. It gives that billet custom sort of look but also looked original. It took me a while to pick what was different and I want to do something along those lines to customise my XY(which isnt on the road yet).

would be interesting to see wht u can come up with, maybe try cardboard or paper to get a few shapes and some chrome spray to try a few things before mangling/modofying parts.. just an idea..

I have a complete XT grill (head light surrounds and centre badge) if your after one; or anyone else for that fact. It's in pretty good cond. only after $50.00.

I think it would look very odd, as well as the fact that the XY has wraparound indicators. My opinion, stick with the original.
