Hey all, im going to be getting an EL XR8 as my next car. I heard there a few different engines put in the EL series XR8s. Some with the 185 KW motor some not? Which ones come with this? How fast are they to 100km/h and quater mile? How much power did the lower spec XR8s come out with?
Also im 20, 21 in may, so i dont know how good ill go on insurance. I have a driving record, i lost it for reckless driving about 2 years ago :( Havent had any accidents, no speeding fines etc. Rating 6. ouch. If its cheaper ill put in under my dads name, and me as a driver?
From October 1997 on the EL XR8 came out with 185kw donks. I always thought the earlier EL's came with 170kw's, but I was reading an early Wheels mag and the had it rated at 172kw's.
My EL2 XR8 just ran a 15.3s pass @ 146kph and it's only had the exhaust changed.

How much will insurance be?
thanks
damn wrong section??? im so stupid :)
Reckless driving? Forget about insurance, or even listing you as a driver. Just insure it under your dads name, it wont be possible any other way and it will cost a fortune even if it was.

Snavy, u never know with insurance. When i was lookin at buyin my sprint last year i never thought i would get insurance specially since it was manuel and sprints are supposed to be 200kw. I was rating 2 but had lost my licence for careless driving when i was 18
To my surprise the racv insured me for the first year, and the premium was 1400ish. Now im with some other mob on rating one and the premium is about 600bux, so its probably worth ringing and finding out if anyone will insure you for the car you might get lucky?
best thing to do mate is ring around. insure it under ya dads name but dont nominate yaself as a driver.
the upside to this is the insurance will be dirt cheap (really depending on ya dads driving history and rating) but if you have a stack, you probably pay an basic excess of $400-450, then another $400 cos you are not nominated.
id rather pay a massive excess then pay $3000 each year, and pay the car off in 3 yrs anyway
The specs from the above site are wrong, the V8's had SEFI and not MPFI like the 6. I have seen a couple of sites with this mistake, must have copied it off this one.
SEFI = sequential electronic fuel injection - (injectors fired individually for each cylinder
MPFI = multi point fuel injection - injectors fired in banks
