Barra powered Cortina

Just wondering, is it possible to drop the Barra 182 or 240T into the engine bay of a Cortina Six? I know it's a bit taller because of the DOHC head and the electronic throttle would be a bit of a problem to fiddle with. Other than that, would there be any other issues? I reckon a Barra-powered Cortina would be a ****ing ace car.

Re: Barra powered Cortina

i've done a bit of research into this. it'll fit physically. alot of mucking around with the sump. barra has 4 bolt mains with the sump as part of the bottom end structure. u can either build a sump ignoring the side main bolts or manufacture/engineer something to support the mains. the rest will be pretty much straight forward.

electronically, u'll have to find an ecu which will run the engine standalone as the ecu on the ba runs everything from the engine/trans, abs, climate control to the brake light switch, so there would be a fair bit of wiring involved. modifying the throttle body to suit an accel cable would be one of the simple problems. u could always cheat with the injection and run dedicated gas and figure out a way to run a distributor.
