Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

4.4's are getting hard to find all the racing guys have used them over the years.

To help you out only small motored escorts had the 4.4
I know the 1.3 vans had them and the 1.1s in England.

Good luck.

You can always try the standard 4.1 will be a lot cheaper and easier to find a good one.

yeah, i can get hold of a 4.1 diff, its just a pain in the arse changing diffs, all the poms use the 4.4's and they have never really said why, which annoys me, coz my cars a daily driver/race car & well...i dont really wanna sit on 6000 revs all the time!!!

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

Use a 4.1

I have one in mine atm and 100km/h is roughly 4000 so if u can live with that then its fine. 4.4 will obviously rev harder and therefore accelerate harder round corners on the track. Depending on the track I use 4.1 just to keep a few revs off the car at 160km/h and try and save the motor. Either way there is only a few hundred revs difference.

U run a welded diff racing? U would need to swap over b4 a race meeting anyway if you do.

Got any questions on basic setup of a cortina for track just ask. I have been through it all over the years.

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

yeah i run a welded 3.7 diff, thats basically the best for the sprints we do, if u have heard of them, leyburn, gatton, pittsworth sprints? well....every cortina running in them has a welded diff, im not sure what the rules are, but they all get away with it.
yeah i am interested in basic track setup for cortina's is. the reason i thought i could get away with 4.4 is im running a 5 speed celica gearbox, my engine isnt overly "big" it comes on cam about 2500 revs cuts at about 7000, though i only ever rev it to 5500 or 5700, no point blowing a motor every race now is there

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

The only cars in AUS that i know of that had 4.44 Diffs were 1100 MkI Escort Panel Vans so they would be fairly rare, and IMO is too short for road use anyway, im 95% sure 1300 Vans had 4.11 diffs.

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

Yeah I use welded diff too. Good as long as you have plenty of camber and castor. Adjustable strut tops are always good but can be expesive so all i have done is redrilled strut top back and in as much as seemed possible (fair bit) and redrilled the lower conrol arm out at the bottom as much as possible. Gave me about 3 degress neg.

Front srings are EB rears cut in half. Work nice and all the guys with koni etc never believe thats what i am running.

You can see in my pic how lower she sits (just nice in my option) maybe a bit low for hillclimbs but ideal for race track.

Nylonthane(spelling?!?) bushes all round are always a good idea.

Well thats just the old school basic mods i have made but if u want any more specific stuff just ask. Oh yeah got Koni adjustable struts in the front. Guy who did them for me tells me they are out of a nissan but not sure which one. U cant get adjustables for Mk1 ans 2s at any reasonable price.

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

Dont be affraid to rev it. If its a balanced motor it should rev to 7000-7500 ok.

I use 7 in all gears except 2nd where i rev it to 7500 to compensate for my shit standard Mk1 box with the huge gap between 2nd and 3rd.

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

according to my cortina manual, cortina's came out with 4.44's though they are the mark 2 1300 engined cars, they are pretty hard to find, i know of 4 in town, the hard part is getting them off the people who own them.

my front end is apparently lotus......but i thought lotus came out with adjustable struts? mine arent, so i dont no whats going on there

if your interested, these are the ratio's for cortina's out of the factory
1200cc mk1, 1500cc mk2 & mk2, 1600cc mk 2---4.125
1300cc mk2--------4.444
1500gt mk1, 1600gt mk 2-----3.900

Re: chasing 4.4 diff for mark 2 cortina

Yeah didnt know that about the 1.3 Mk2s. Good info thanks.
I honestly dont think the 4.4 is worth the effort unless you have a good high reving race motor. A 4.1 would work fine.

Dont know anywhere with a cheap LSD for a cortina do u??
