Re: does anyone here own a MK2
Hey,
I have one, a 69 440. Its a collaboration of about 3 different Cortinas, thank god its in primer (its one colour again!). Its been in restoration for several years, pending money. Unlike the Morrie, the Corty has always had good bits put to it - if the money wasn't there it just sat in the shed until I had it. But I've been working too much of late, so I haven't been able to do much except design tattoos and call it work, then drink beer after work. Damn, its a hard job but someones gotta do it ;P
But, an update on the Beast:
Long time members will remember that the Corty was to get a Jap import motor. Specifically a Toyota 2TGEU. Its similar to a Lotus Cortina engine as its a 1600 Twin cam 8v, that grew out of a 1600 pushrod. But much cheaper, and it can be bored & stroked to 2L. The mighty 2TGEU is now fitted, looking and sounding sexy. It actually fitted really easily. We set aside an afternoon to swing it in, but it took around 15 minutes, once the bonnet and radiator were leaning on the shed. The engine mounts lined up with the Ford ones on the crossmember, minimal massaging and they were permanent. The gearbox mounts lined up and the shifter came out of the right spot in the floor. There's plenty of clearance in the engine bay around everything, impressive since it still has its injection intake manifold. Put it this way, it took 15 minutes to drop it in, and an hour to convince ourselves we hadn't missed anything. All in all it was much easier than the fitting fun we had when we stuck a 1275A+ in my Morris 1100's'.
The body is basically finished now, awaiting the final paint - which will be wild violet. Its rust free, and getting straighter. With any luck it'll be painted by January. After that its doing the interior and the lots of little things that conspire to spend much money. Still not 100% sure about whats happening with the rear end, so no tailshaft as yet. Thinking that Hilux/Hiace/etc LSD would be nice, but its a matter of finding a decent one.
L8a,
Prud
