mk2 Gearbox

I need a new gearbox as my other shat itself.
are there any cheap ($300 -) gearboxes from other cars that are a straight fit??? as Mk2 boxes are way hard to come by!! also are there any 5 speeds that bolt or need minor mods or ready made ones to fit...
need info ASAP please....

Type 9 5-Speed from sierra etc will fit but has a cable clutch so some mods are necessary. Unfortunately I dont think u would get onbe for $300.

The Gearbox from all 1600s is the same as far as I know so Mk1 and 2 Escort boxes from 1300 and 1600 will fit but u will need to check whether it is a cable clutch. Im not sure. If u want better cruising then a diff change could help. You would prob have a 4.1:1 diff so a 3.9 from a GT or 3.7 from an Escort/Capri might help. Not sure which models had 3.7 but i know its possible.
