need a little help and advice!

im looking at replacing my 4 stud diff on my 79 TF Corti with a 5 stud diff, or just replacing the axcels them selves.... either way i'd like to change it...

does anyone know of any diffs that fit on???... my mate said an XF may.... but i just looked at him and laughed ...lol
or would it just be better to replace the axcels?....

the reason for me doin so is because i'd like to put a set of BA XR-6 rims onit but with real low profile tyres... other wise i dont think they'll fit...

has any one done this and/or know if it works at all!?

and another thing i'm trying to do soon is replacing the transmission with a Manual one instead of the stock Auto... and i was wondering if any one knows of any good 5 speed transmissions that'd fit my corti...???

thanks in advance!

Re: need a little help and advice!

theres a similar thread with recent posts regarding 5 stud diff
although your 5 speed stuff will prob be new, i'd guess anything from a falcon 5 speed wise will NOT work cos of where the shifter comes out, the toyota boxes(some of them anyway as in supra) have different places to mount the gear shift, not a simple conversion , tail shaft, box mount and clutch and speedo mods CRS www.rodshop.com.au would have done both of these mods before as would other places

Re: need a little help and advice!

I think there was a 5speed that was the same as the single rail that was fitted to some XE/XF falcons. Correct me if I'am wrong. It should bolt up the same as the 4 speed s/rail that the cortina came out with.

yeah late XFs'87 had T5s sometimes which will bolt upto any falcon/cortina crossflow for sure but as i said earlier falcon gearstick is further back than cortina so unless you want to be canging gears from where the handbrake sits, i'd consider a toyota supra if you must have a five speed. single rail box is strong(i had one behind my 351 and it didn't die from 6cyl cortina with falcon extension housing) only prob with them is gear stick coming out(i know how to fix this) and platic bush$2 that wears out and makes shift sloppy

just a couple of things u can do is getting a pair of XD axels one should be smaler...now use that one in place of the longer one in the corty.now with the
other one you will have to shorten it to size and respline it....or the cheaper way around it is to see your loacal fitter and terner with your axels and get him to nock out the studs and weld up the holes drill new ones and nock in 5 newies. And for the front you can use a set of (XT)only, front rotors as they just bolt on. hope that was helpful enough.

Re: need a little help and advice!

hello there,at first i had a a set of standard axles restuded to five, from a place in adelaide it was a good job, but i scratched that now i have a complette xf falcon lsd diff fitted, and i have a supra five speed fitted as well it was fairly straight forward had a mate nock up the new gearbox mount and brought the rodshop new gear shift mount to mount the shifter forward, and had the xf tailshaft shortened as well.
