Thumbs up Restoration & Re-Build Dramas will they ever end?

Hi Guys...Been a while since visiting so I thought I'd try my hand at starting a topic...so here it goes...What Corty restoration dramas have you guys had and how did you overcome them? What prompted you to make the decisions you have when it came to re-building your motor...for example did you keep your motor stock because it was easier or modify it because you wanted to "stand out from the crowd"?....I have posted a full story and added some pics on this site Cardomain.com Check it out and let us know what you think....

Cheers

Re: Restoration & Re-Build Dramas will they ever end?

I had big dramas relating to one particular shop doing very dodgy work that I am still fixing up today. They were supposed to install an EMS, exhaust and EFI fuel system and they made a massive mess of it. Luckily the actual EFI hardware they put in was all fine but the exhaust had to be scrapped. They ran rubber fuel lines holding 40 odd psi near tyres and the exhaust. If a wire had to go through metal they drilled a hole just large enough, didn't bother removing burs or fitting grommets, and dragged the wire through. I did a course on EFI hardware and performance and have begun correcting their errors. It has become clear to me now that a large number of the "Turbo and EFI experts" around the place don't have much of a clue. They couldn't even work out the crip angle so they just guessed!!!
I've stripped the car back to a rolling shell and straighened up the body so it should be getting painted in the next few weeks. I lost a lot of motivation in the project after the EFI stuff up's so it sat for quite a while but it's back on track now.

confused Re: Restoration & Re-Build Dramas will they ever end?

well dramas?where do i start!i bought my car as a freshly painted rolling complete car but the motor was in the boot and the auto was on the back seat.. .the guy said the motor had done a main bearing so i got another long motor and built that instead..b4 i refitted the driveline i noticed the engine bay had a few hairline fractures so i had to weld then up first.man i was hangin to drive it..fitted the new motor and went for a blueslip. coz id used a different motor the numbers on the engineers report (its a 302)didnt match the motor so they told me it would have to b reengineered or id have to fit the original motor... there was no way the new motor would pass the emission test with the holley and cam so it was off home to rip the motor again and build the old motor with all the parts from the new motor aaarrhh.. a week later it was passed for a bluey and i was off to the rta for rego... ..2 weeks later driving to work i get rear ended by some TOOL in a bloody EXEL so now im waitin for the panelbeaters to fix it they say green cars are bad luck now i see why

I can relate to Green cars being Bad Luck my donor car was Green and the only thing good that came out of it was the Number plate idea...TD 2 NV (green with envy, get it?) anyways I dropped $3,000 on the bloody thing before realising it wern't gonna work...so I got another rolling shell transported from Canberra in you guessed it Green primer and what happened...the 302 I bought with the car jumped off the engine mounts and did some damage to the engine bay.....I have now had that all fixed and she has been painted Red and Black GT stripes....youcan check it out and the full story on http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/668836 thanx for your reply
