I bought a t5 g/box from the quokka for 250, I had to remove it and apparently it was still running very nicely.
The donor car was a 87 xf s-pac station wagon
After finally gettin the box under my cortina and raising it up, my worst fears have come true....
The t5 is 100mm too far forward and shifting it 100mm back means I will have to cut into the structure of the car to get the shifter in and that will get messy.
I really should have thought about it all, but I was so eager to get a t5 in there hehe.
Is it possible to get a shorter extension housing with the shifter say 100mm forward??
Or would I be better off getting another g/box?? say a supra with the shifter to the front??
i've done a few T5 conversions on cortinas and the shifter always was back and yes u do have to cut into the floorpan to make the shifter fit. it wasnt too much of an issue.

MUSTANG T-5 REAR EXTENTION HOUSING.. $370 from Mal Woods is QLD.
they are only 60mm forward than a falcon one but no cutting is required and the straight up shifter off a AU will be ok and you dont even have to move the hand brake.. cheers..

sounds like a great alternative so i rang mal woods this morning and they are a very helpful and informative bunch of ppl. they dont have any of the mustang housings in stock at the mo but are expecting stock in the next few weeks. it's not a 5 minute conversion and he wasnt too keen on selling the bits in "kit" form as they'd rather do the job in house themselves. thats not to say that he wont sell them in diy form........but he did also say there are over 720 different varieties of T5 and if u dont know exactly what u have then u could very quickly get yourself into a lot of shit

mal just asks if it is a xf - ed box or a ef-au. as mine was a xf box it was easy. he also supplied a selector shaft and speedo drive to suit, included in the price then $30 postage to perth. im happy that i dont have to cut a hole for the sake of $400. just make sure that a 5 speed thrust bearing is used or you will get bad clutch feel and wont be able to adjust it properly. cheers..xrglen
